March 24: Two shorts from Uzbekistan and Indonesia, followed by Salam

Saturday, March 24, 12:00pm, UNC Charlotte main campus, Fretwell 100 (Campus map)

Sponsored by the Charlotte Asian Film Festival, the UNC Charlotte Department of Philosophy, and the UNC Charlotte Chancellor’s Diversity Challenge Fund

Two short films from Uzbekistan and Indonesia, followed by Salam, a documentary feature

Perfect World: Reality, Uzbekistan, short comical film, 7 min.

A person seeks to make the world around better. But about what world do we speak? Where are the borders of this world?

Oh-Bey, Indonesia, short comical film, 6 min.

A flower named Beybi has a great curiosity about the outside world, but she was not allowed to leave the glass house. However she found out that the outside world was really interesting and fun.

Salam, directed by Anand Kamalakar, a documentary in English, 120min.

Followed by Q&A with the director (in person)

Documentary about the Nobel prize winning Pakistani physicist, Abdus Salam. The film reveals the extraordinary life of the charismatic Abdus Salam, in all its color, vitality and tragedy. It is the story of a man who traversed two worlds with ease: one of science and religion, modernity and tradition, war and peace, and obscurity and celebrity.
